Strategic Steps in Enterprise Architecture - Transforming ICT in Education
Higher education in the UK is a 26 billion euro economic sector and spends 1 billion euro annually on ICT, part of the 3.5 billion euro UK market to ICT in education. With funding under pressure and competition for students increasing the community is at the early stages of adopting enterprise architecture methods to improve the effectiveness and impact of ICT investment.

JISC is has just launched a programme of three pilot projects in major universities to evaluate the enterprise architecture approach and TOGAF in particular. To support the programme JISC and the University of Cardiff, Kings College London and Liverpool John Moores University have become members of The Open Group, to learn from the community and contribute their knowledge and experience as they take their first steps with TOGAF.

After introducing JISC and its role in the UK's national education e-strategy, Sarah will describe the emerging e-Framework for higher education and the wider international context, and why enterprise architecture is now a priority issue. She will also describe the new programme and collaboration with The Open Group and highlight the issues and challenges facing the community in adopting the enterprise architecture approach. To conclude Sarah will speak about the mutual benefit she sees in interaction with the wider community of Enterprise Architecture practitioners and invite engagement with the programme.
