Presentation
The Case for Service Delivery Controllers for SOA
SOA and other complex, multi-service environments create substantial operational challenges including control, mediation, visibility and performance. Developers currently rely on hard-coding in applications or additional layers of software to address these issues, however, both prevent a quick and economical response to business change over the long term.  New service delivery controllers that stratify the layers where services are created and consumed from where they are operated and managed address these issues.

Service delivery controllers provide configuration-based capabilities for addressing a wide range of operational issues covering logging and auditing, security, service interoperability, performance optimization, service management, and service personalization. Often, parts of the configuration are dependent on service implementation specifics and therefore need to track service development lifecycles. Service delivery controllers offer strong lifecycle support, enabling configurations to be managed and deployed just like any other application.

The speaker will describe how Level 3, which operates one of the largest communications and Internet backbones in the world, is deploying this architectural model. Level 3 is deploying Sonoa Systems' service proxy appliance as a critical component in its SOA environment, and considers it a universal service gateway.
