Session Objective

The theme of this conference is "Distributed Computing for the Extended Enterprise" and there will be extensive coverage of the subject on Monday 20th.

This Requirements Session has been arranged:

  • To provide further information about the major issues affecting Distributed Computing exploring the issues in greater technical depth, and
  • To collect members' requirements for the next steps in Distributed Computing infrastructure standardisation.

This session will build on the results of the interactive discussions on Monday 20th. There will be more time to discuss in more detail the issues being raised an the solutions being discussed.

Members should attend if they wish to gain a deeper appreciation of the issues, especially if they would like to influence The Open Group's programs in this area. Results from this discussion will be input to the DCE Program Group (see separate agenda) or the "Component Software Technology and Java" update session (see separate agenda), and members should consider particating in either of these sessions as well, to provide greater influence.

The meeting will include several major segments, each covering a specific sub-topic. As many as possible from the attached list will be covered during the session. In each segment an invited expert will outline the issues and there will be an opportunity for discussion. Issues will be identified and prioritised. There will also be a brief recap on current work and a wrap-up session.
