The "New" DCE
A program and exhibition highlighting the "new" DCE, focused on delivering true value in Mission- and Business-critical enterprise computing.

The New DCE provides the enterprise with a heterogeneous, multi-vendor, standards-based infrastructure.

  • Single Sign On
  • Smart Cards
  • Java Integration
  • Object Request Brokers
  • Downloadable Clients
  • Mainframe Integration
  • Transaction Monitors.

 The DCE Program Group is thrilled to present a spectacular program in Miami, consistent with DCE’s strategic focus on end-user value.

The July conference will take on a new look and feel from previous conferences. The DCE Program Group, in association with the DCE vendors and resellers, will configure The Open Group conference network as a multivendor network that will serve as the backbone for the entire Miami conference. The conference network has been constructed to represent a real enterprise, where the enterprise IS the conference! All aspects of the conference –, record keeping, vendor demos and presentations, collaborative work from program group sessions, access to the Internet, and print services – will be available to attendees via this DCE-secured network.

The network will feature, among other things, object-based component software, thin clients, mainframes, and multicell interoperation. Members and their guests may experience first-hand the power of enterprise distributed computing, DCE style! Attendees will be able to plug right in to the network and have the entire conference at their fingertips. So, if you own a laptop computer, feel free to bring it, browser and all.

In keeping with the Miami conference’s theme of distributed object management, the DCE program will be devoting several informative sessions to the future interaction between DCE and many of the emerging object technologies, including CORBA, DCOM, and Java. Attendees will learn how DCE integrates with, and enhances the value of, each of these emerging technologies. As in San Diego, we will have a compelling lineup of industry-known speakers on the cutting edge of object and component technology. These presenters are sure to add breadth and interest to the Program Group’s meeting format.

Other session highlights this week will include

  • DCE Tutorial on Tuesday: Intro to DCE, and Intro to classic DCE security (Kerberos, GSSAPI etc.]
  • Deploying Quality Authorization;
  • DCE and Multiple Platforms: tying together the enterprise, from thin clients to mainframes;
  • DCE presentations on evolving DCE security [Public Key, CDSA etc.]
  • Joint DCE / Security program group session;
  • DCE in Action! - DCE success stories from industry.

The DCE program will run three days, starting Tuesday, July 23rd. Tuesday and Wednesday will be open to both members and nonmembers, with Thursday being reserved for members to conduct DCE Program business.

Demonstrations are sure to be a big hit in Miami! Several application vendors will be displaying their wares, covering a variety of object component technologies such as authorization, ORBs, Java, DCOM, DCE, and DCE/JAVA integration. In addition to separate vendor demos, each vendor will also have access to an interoperability cell, in order to demonstrate "classic" models of DCE multivendor interoperability. And this time around, all demos will be ongoing throughout the week in our demonstration area, so that attendees can fit more presentation and discussion sessions into their schedules, without missing any demonstrations.

We look forward to seeing you in Miami.!
