W3C: Leading the Web - and Web Services - to their Full
Potential
The World Wide Web Consortium has earned the trust of the
international community for developing open, interoperable, technical
standards that serve as the foundation for the Web.
W3C's work in Web Services started long before the brand
"Web Services" appeared. Progress continues today on critical components
such as XML, XML Schema, XML Signatures, XML Encryption, SOAP 1.2, revisions
of WSDL, and RDF. To ensure integration and interoperability, the W3C
is defining the architecture for Web Services and coordinating efforts
within and outside the Consortium. Web Services Working Groups conduct
their technical work on public mailing lists and are chartered to produce
royalty-free, open specifications.
This presentation provides both historical perspective and
an update on current W3C work.
