Architecture Enforcement: the MILS Framework

Rance DeLong
Staff Scientist, LynuxWorks

Mils™ is an architectural style, and a technology to implement and support the enforcement of that style. Mils is a component based approach to achieve assured systems for a variety of application domains that require dependable information processing and process controls. Mils is distinguished by its emphasis on dependability through assuredness. This presentation will introduce the Mils concepts and the framework it provides for the implementation of assured dependable systems through architectural enforcement.

Rance J. DeLong is staff scientist at LynuxWorks, adjunct professor at Santa Clara University, and a consultant. He has more than 30 years of software development experience, with a focus on security and high-assurance systems.

Mr. DeLong is a member of the Center for the Advanced Study and Practice of Information Assurance at Santa Clara University, where he teaches in the Computer Engineering graduate program.
