Ken Jarvis is one of South Africa's most respected and successful CIOs. Ken drew the industry's attention when he met a tight IT-refresh deadline at Nedbank in the mid-'90s. Subsequent positions in the South African market included CIO at Multichoice, a directorship at JSE-listed Idion Holdings, and CIO at SA Revenue Services and AA Autobay, a position he currently holds. While at SA Revenue Services, Ken spearheaded the most innovative and dynamic IT initiative in South African history. SARS is legendary for the fact that IT has been instrumental in earning the country billions in extra taxation revenue. Ken has taken this experience to AA Autobay, the country's largest motor sales initiative. At both SA Revenue Services and AA Autobay, Ken drove all IT decisions and actions against the context of business requirements, and within the framework of an Enterprise Architecture. This approach has ensured that IT and business are totally aligned at both organisations. |

Presentation
EA Experience at SARS and AA Autobay
Ken as CIO and Andre van der Post as chief technologist were partly responsible for transforming SARS into a world-class IT organisation. Since then, Ken has created the IT underpinning for AA Autobay, and Andre consults independently.
Ken and Andre will jointly present on how they applied architectural principles to both SARS and AA Autobay, and the benefits this approach conferred on both organisations.
