Architecture on Purpose
"We've just gone through yet another PR disaster - how do we prevent those bad headlines from hitting us again?"

Whilst IT-architects still focus most on optimisation issues such as bandwidth, software-services, applications and business/IT-alignment, business executives often have much worse worries to keep them awake at night. And that's where they most want our help.

To tackle these concerns, we need to extend the scope of EA, not just from IT to business-architecture, but to the whole 'extended enterprise' that gives the business its business-purpose. Starting our architecture at that level with TOGAF and other EA tools gives us new ways to enhance overall enterprise effectiveness - and help our executives get home to a good night's rest!

Architecture of the Enterprise - A Holistic View

The term "Enterprise Architecture" literally means "architecture of an enterprise" for to 95% of people, but is frequently used by IT architects to mean "architecture of IT in context with the whole enterprise". This presentation will describe the holistic meaning of "Enterprise Architecture" and the roles of architects and management in facilitating alignment across the whole enterprise.

Walter Stahlecker, Fellow, The Open Group, Germany

He has been an active member of The Open Group's working groups and Governing Board (and the preceding X/Open) since 20 years. He initiated the Business Architecture Working Group, the ITAC Program and is a founding member of the Architecture Forum.
