Actionable Business Architecture - A critical component of Enterprise Architecture
As business and technology become more intertwined, development and deployment of IT systems that address the ever changing needs of the business today and in the future become extremely critical. While it is true that in most industries, EA has found acceptance as a vehicle to align business and IT, historically the lack of strong and formal representation of the business aspects in EA rendered such a goal ineffective and led many business leaders to perceive EA as a pure IT play.
In this presentation we will introduce the concept of Actionable Business Architecture which is an instantiation of Business Architecture covering the intersection of Business Strategy, Business Operating Model and parts of the IT Model that is concerned with the business. We will show how it is realized through prescriptive approaches guided by robust techniques and through a detailed set of rich artifacts. Given that Actionable Business Architecture can and should be developed as an integral part of every EA initiative, we will then show the dependencies and the use of Actionable Business Architecture artifacts as input to the definition of the artifacts of the rest of EA domain. Finally, in situations where an EA program is not yet adopted, we will illustrate how such an Actionable Business Architecture can be developed and executed independently of EA and still contribute to EA development once established.
