Yukinori Kakazu
Director, Technoface Corporation; and Head Director, Computing Center,
Hokkaido University
Yukinori Kakazu received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1967 from
Ryukyu University, an M.S. in Precision Engineering in 1970 from Hokkaido
University, and a Ph.D. in 1973 in Precision Engineering from Hokkaido
University.
He is currently the CTO of Technoface Corporation, and a professor of
System Information at Hokkaido University. He is also the Head Director
of the Hokkaido University Computing Center.
He was an associate professor, from 1977 to 1987, then a professor in
Precision Engineering at the Hokkaido University Institute of Precision
Engineering.
His research interests include CAD/CAM, CG, and emergent design methodology
exploration. Because of his great contributions to these fields, he received
a number of awards including a Best Paper Award in 1980, a Technical Contribution
Award in 1990, (both from the Japan Society for Precision Engineering)
a Best Theoretical Development Award from ANNIE in 1995, and a Robotics
and Mechatronics Award from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers
in 1999.
His current research interests and work focus on Information Technology,
ranging widely from Linux to Web services. In 2004, he established a company,
Technoface, to drive the research and development of leading open-source
products, including OpenSOAP.
