Mobile Directory Challenge

The Open Group is planning to issue a Challenge to vendors and users of wireless technology (focused on 802.11x) and of Directory technology to demonstrate the benefits of enabling management of these networks through standards-based directory services.

The challenge will demonstrate how many aspects of wireless computing management can be simplified and standardized using current and developing directory technology. Aspects to be "directory managed" may include:

• User and user device information
• User and user device authentication and authorization
• Systems and network information
• Systems and Network use and state
• Roaming session persistence information requirements.

This session will discuss:

• The statement of the challenge
• The timing of the challenge.
• Marketing aspects
• Specific technical aspects
• Test plan development
• Participation criteria.
