Information SuperHighway Program Group

London Agenda

More information on the program group

The purpose of this meeting will be to further our understanding of the Internet as it is today, and to see how and where we can assist it to reach its full potential.

We will set the scene by assessing what the Internet has achieved so far and the ways in which it is developing. The current status will be measured and compared against a mature market model to see where assistance, or correction is required.

This will be followed by presentations from speakers involved in both the customer and supply side, who will highlight some of the problems and opportunities that they face. The focus of these presentations will be to pinpoint where the application of practical standards would make a real difference.

There will be a session of reports on the important work being done by other consortia, Governments, and suppliers who are shaping the Internet and its future.

Updates will be given by the Task Groups that have been established to study the following areas:

  • ActiveX and Java - security issues for the corporation
  • Corporate Web Server Guidelines - best practice for corporate business use
  • Network Computer Reference Profile - future business requirements
  • PICS - relation to other data labeling models, and business usage
  • Electronic Commerce - identify requirements and current work
  • Political and Legal Issues - preventing barriers to usage
