Domain C: Enterprise Architecture Deployment

Introduction

The Enterprise Architecture Deployment process is that part of the TOGAF Architecture Lifecycle Method concerned with deploying the target enterprise architecture(s) and solutions.

The target  is described in Domain A: Architecture Development, and planned by Domain B: Business Transformation, as a set of Enterprise Solutions that will fulfil the target enterprise architecture.

Purpose

This domain defines the implementation plan for deploying the architecture and typically describes a phased approach in which a prioritized series of transitional architectures is deployed, each representing an incremental step towards the target architecture.

The solution deployed in this domain is, in effect, the organization’s own Solution Architecture. It implements the organization-specific architecture depicted on the right-hand side of the Architecture Continuum, and is the result of re-using (from the Solutions Continuum), developing, or procuring the required set of Solution Building Blocks (SBBs).

The Enterprise Continuum is described in detail in the Book 3.

Example: NASCIO Solution Architecture

NASCIO identifies the Solution Architecture as a component of the enterprise architecture that focuses on the development and implementation of a solution or service being created for the enterprise.

It goes on to identify the Solution Architecture framework as a combination of structured processes and templates that utilize existing architecture documents (such as business, information, and technology components as well as models and patterns) to design a desired business solution.

The Solution Architecture framework, by allowing the development of a Solution Set, facilitates the rapid development and delivery of a solution in a systematic and well-disciplined manner.
