SOA Work Group

Objective of Meeting

The aims of the meeting were to:

  • Describe the SOA Work Group to new attendees
  • Progress its work on SOA standardization and SOA tutorial development

Summary

Using the SOA Work Group Plato pages, Forum Director Chris Harding explained the constitution and work program of the SOA Work Group.

The meeting then discussed the possibility that the standards produced by the Work Group could be submitted to ISO through its Publicly Available Specification (PAS) process and become the bases of ISO standards.

The Work Group is developing a series of five tutorials as follows: The Impact of SOA, SOA Governance, SOA Architecture, Using TOGAF for SOA, and Implementing SOA. The first three of these had been given in the conference SOA stream. The meeting discussed participants' impressions of and feedback from those tutorial presentations, and considered how the series could best be completed.

Outputs

This summary, and the detailed minutes available to members are the outputs of the meeting.

Next Steps

The Work Group will continue development of its standards, bearing in mind the possibility that they may become the bases for ISO standards.

The Work Group will review and further improve the three tutorials that it has developed so far, and will work to develop the remaining two tutorials in the series.
