  Uwe Weber - Head of Group Architecture Strategy, Detecon International GmbH  

Uwe WeberAs Head of Group Architecture Strategy, Uwe is accountable for the Detecon Enterprise Architecture Management Framework. Based on TOGAF 8, this framework is continuously enhanced in relevant areas like IT Value Management, Governance or strategies for the successful implementation of EAM within large enterprises. Based on the EAM-Framework, a set of methods to develop a SOA-Strategy for large enterprises was developed. All enhancement and tools are proven within series of projects at customers of different size and industries.detecon logo

During the last seventeen years, Uwe worked for employers like IBM in different roles on the development and implementation of architecture solutions for customers from different industries and size in order solve business requirements within complex and business critical environments.

Some of his latest projects have been the development of an SOA reference architecture within a real-time environment for Deutsche Telekom and the development and initialization of an Architecture board as an implementation strategy for EAM at DaimlerChrysler.

How to vitalize Enterprise Architecture Management through Governance

To implement an efficient and stringent IT architecture management, corporate IT function of a large, international automotive manufacturer decided to setup a new architecture board. The goals of the Board are:

  • An increased efficiency of the IT architecture due to overarching planning capabilities and a higher level of standardization
  • Leveraging synergies based on an information flow that spans the organization units
  • Enhanced competitive advantages through a near-term exploration and industrialization of relevant technological innovation

Based on the Detecon Governance Framework as well on the standard frameworks TOGAF and COBIT, the project team worked out the mandate of the board in terms of tasks, competencies and responsibilities. In order to bring this paper ware alive, a roadmap was developed, which implements the prioritized topics from the list of main action fields. For example, an IT sanity check was developed in order to find out the stakeholders pain points to determine the EAM starting points and to fill the enterprise continuum.
