Len FehskensLen Fehskens leads the Worldwide Architecture Profession Office, for HP Services, Hewlett-Packard.

Len majored in Computer Science at MIT, and has almost 40 years of experience in the IT business as both an individual contributor and a manager, within both product engineering and services business units. He has worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, Data General Corporation, Prime Computer, Compaq and Hewlett Packard.

He is the lead inventor on 6 software patents on the object oriented management of distributed systems and was recently TOGAF-8 certified.

SOA as Service Oriented Alignment: Rebottling Old Wine In New Bottles

Virtually all of the concepts of SOA, save one, are familiar to old-timers who have been through previous epochs of modularization as the key to reuse and configurability. What's new about SOA is the idea of service as the unit of modularization, and fully exploiting this innovation requires adapting the concept of architecture to the domain of business, and adopting the concept of architecture within the domain of business. This presentation explores the basis for and implications of this assertion.
