Presentation Value Framework for SOA
The IBM Institute for Business Value undertook to study 35 SOA projects across a range of industries and regions. We discovered that indeed, 100% exhibited improved flexibility, and the vast majority decreased costs as well as realizing a host of other benefits. But we also discovered something very intriguing: Companies, if they developed a business case at all for SOA, weren t doing it in the traditional way replete with exhaustive evidence. They all recognized the difficulties and limitations inherent in building a business case for any fast-emerging technology. Striking the middle ground between no business case and the traditional one IBM has developed a simplified approach to measuring the business value of SOA.
Those attending will gain a framework for discussing this value with their clients or stakeholders. The framework includes a view of the benefits specific to SOA, structured views on costs, and a simplified approach to measuring return on investment specific to SOA, and the language needed to discuss this technical topic with C-level business executives. This approach or practice can be extended to any enterprise architecture component investment to be shared by multiple business units in your organization.
