Eric developed a professional EA practice at Arismore in coordination with ITIL and COBIT practices, this led to a pragmatic approach which tightly couples the business side of IT (business expectation and IT organisation) and the technology side of IT (methodology, business application development, infrastructure, operation) in order to lead business transformation and to keep business projects under control. The key point is to enhance business and IT people's awareness of the architecture continuum in order to share a common vision of the business goals and IT projects.

French Urbanism Welcomes EA : the Alliance of Business Modelling and Architecture Governance to Drive Business Transformation

The Alliance of Business Modelling and Architecture Governance to Drive Business Transformation France has been developping a long tradition in urbanism since late 90's, meanwhile the Open Group led the Anglo-Saxon practice with the EA.

The presentation goes through the top-down French approach from business prospective to the technical layers and the bottom-up anglo-saxon approach which has been starting from technical frameworks (prior to TOGAF 7) to EA framework. The bottom line is a pragmatic answer to every company which wonder which is the best way to start : top-down or bottom-up ?

Every company is chasing the same qualities:  to set up an EA  practice to faster align the information systems on business and to make agile service oriented IS happen, we'll see that it needs to balance top-down and bottom-up initiatives.

Using the EA to Transform the IS

Every single Company or Administration has new business requirements to undertake.

  • How to transform the way to operate business as it used to be?
  • How to transform information system according to new processes?
  • How to use new information system to transform business processes?

The Enterprise Architect job is to identify opportunities to set up a common Enterprise Architecture initiative to better and faster answer to new business demands, we will see how to succeed on exemples such as "how to share a common and unique repository of goods ", "how to move to real time business through processes and application improved integration".  There is not a single Architecture method but according to the TOGAF advise, you can use the TOGAF in conjunction with frameworks having products relevant / specific to particular sectors.
