SOA - A New Paradigm
SOA is not one technology/methodology/... it's a new paradigm! And that does take a lot of time and explanation to developers but also, and just as important, to project managers, system owners and user representatives - and you cannot reuse the explanation. SOA deliverables can be easier to hand over from external consultants to internal people compared to the "application paradigm" - but there are some requirements related to granularity, partitioning, architectural details on the implementation etc.
You can start implementing SOA in a "corner", but it has to be "the right corner" for SOA to gain momentum.
The lesson, that you need to have at least some understanding of the architecture from the vision to the technology implementation and that you must communicate that understanding - is valid for any technology. The impact is just greater when you change paradigm…
