Architecting for Interoperability using Fit For Federation Criteria
Much like complex commercial companies, the DoD is a complex organization comprised of interdependent components including the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines. Similarly, each component of the DoD is a complex organization comprised of sub-components such as Operations, Personnel, Finance, Logistics, etc. All such complex organizations, commercial and government, share common integration and interoperation issues and are bearing the increasing costs of integration and interoperation.
The DoD and the Air Force use Architecture Federation to help address these problems, and the Air Force has specifically developed an Architecture Federation approach called Fit For Federation to focus architecting efforts in support of interoperation.
This presentation describes the Air Force Fit For Federation approach and criteria designed to deliver an interoperable Air Force.
