Semantic Web Services
Web Services have become popular vehicles for implementing reusable fragments of functionality within an enterprise as well as across enterprises. As the state of web services have matured within enterprises to build a true service-oriented architecture, the need for enriching service definitions as well as service consumption are coming to the forefront. This also comes at a time when the Semantic Web initiatives and the classic Web Services specifications are converging in the marketplace.
This presentation will outline case studies that illustrate the need for semantics around web services and then will proceed to define an ontological based approach to annotating existing service descriptions. Following this, a brief survey of current mechanisms and standards, with focus on WSML and WSDL-S to accomplish the stated goals of semantically annotating web services will be presented. The presentation will conclude with some of the challenges and future efforts in web services modeling ontology.
