Improving Defence Agility
through Directed Exploitation of Business Service Technologies
Much is said about driving SOA from the business. But what
does that really mean?. This session covers the approach
to SOA taken by the UK Defence Equipment and Support Organisation,
implemented by Salamander and glue:, and based on Salamander's
platform-independent MooD Business Orchestration technology.
Two features are key to the success. First - specifying and executing services and composite applications directly from a rich TOGAF / MODAF / OAGIS architecture, prior to even choosing a deployment platform. Second - tight and quick iteration across a range of roles, and integration through into the downstream SOA platforms, while staying focused on the specifics of the domain rather than technology.
The outcome is a process driven by the consumer rather than the provider of services, with the resulting Service Ready Architecture™ addressing needs across the agenda of the business and the CIO .
In short, customer control, business agility and clarity of design.
