Presentation
Applying Patterns, Platform Intelligence and Products to ESB Deployments
ESB implementations are popping up everywhere. The ESB pattern allows for numerous choices in architecture, design and deployment. This session looks at 3 case studies (Large Bank, Large Automotive Company and Insurance Information Provider) that used a variety of techniques, but all with a guiding principle of keeping their service implementations close to their underlying transactions and data. There is a set of discussion points and lessons learned for each ESB implementation technique:

  1. Web Application Server as a multi-channel integration hub with Connectors to IMS or CICS ** Discussion Point: Portfolio Format & Protocol Maps, Scalability, Availability
  2. Message Brokers as Federated ESBs for sharing information across lines of business ** Discussion Point: Registry based Governance, Problem Determination in Firewall-Hell
  3. Web Application Server as a B2B gateway ** Discussion Point: using a platform selection method as part of a consolidation strategy that includes an ESB workload in virtualization environments.
