Implementing a successful SOA MDM solution
Prior "single version of the truth" approaches like ERP systems and Enterprise Data Warehouse efforts did not place emphasis on SOA, metadata, and governance. Master Data Management has the opportunity to address the prior lack of architectural agility as well as metadata integration and provide an enterprise solution based on the strengths of prior systems combined with the flexibility of new technologies.
Due to the well documented value of data quality and conformance across systems as well as the limitations of existing systems with the introduction of SOA, MDM has been picking up supporters from multiple prior solution camps. It is finally time to put our money where our mouth is and start treating data as the corporate asset it is by bringing together people, process, policy and technology under MDM to manage data through the entire lifecycle in a holistic fashion across the enterprise. Coincidentally, this is also the only way to a successful enterprise wide SOA implementation since MDM and the ability to identify the master reference area for each piece of data is a prerequisite for services to provide semantically correct results.
This presentation describes the intersection between SOA and MDM as well as how to implement a successful SOA enabled MDM solution through a pilot program.
