Presentation
From Enterprise Architecture Concepts to SOA capabilities: A practical deployment method
The presentation describes a project that consisted of developing an end-to-end SOA driven application for the core operations of one of the largest semi-governmental organizations in the Middle East with global operations. The project had a team of over 200 people and involved several specialized vendors with each covering a different area of the project (requirements management, project management, software development, testing and enterprise architecture).

As the EA office partners, our role consisted of implementing an integrated development and deployment environment that leverages enterprise architecture principles and concepts to enable all involved parties to work together effectively while ensuring governance and control over the quality of the project, the structure of the deliverables and most importantly, the realization of the business benefits while expediting the delivery of the solution.

The project helped us demonstrate the synergy between an actionable enterprise architecture practice and SOA solution deployments. The above client has today the most comprehensive and mature enterprise architecture implementation in the Middle East.

The main learning points from our project are:

  • Design a blueprint that integrates all EA components across all the levels of the organization into one connected view
  • Define a Business Process Decomposition method for Service Oriented Architecture
  • Use a business driven development method for SOA deployment
  • Implement applied Change Management methods to enhance adoption of SOA concepts and facilitate acceptance of SOA solutions
