  Douglas Darner - Enterprise Architect, Chevron  


Douglas DarnerDoug is a Program Architect for the Upstream Foundation Program which is an SOA based implementation for Upstream within Chevron.  The program coordinates various project activities to deliver common architectural elements to speed creation of an integrated set of functionality.

He is a member of the Chevron Enterprise Architecture team responsible for enterprise architecture methodology. The team partners with others across the enterprise to develop architecture processes, guidelines and standards to be leveraged throughout Chevron.

Doug has been with Chevron 15 years progressing through various architecture roles in support of multiple operating companies during his tenure. Prior to joining Chevron he spent 4 years with TRW Systems Engineering Division as an Oracle DBA and Systems Analyst.

The Value of Service Oriented Architecture - Chevron Upstream Prospective
One consistent element in the Upstream O&G business is change. Chevron Upstream is seeking to move from traditional IT solutions to higher value architectures. Emerging from Enterprise Architecture efforts, opportunities were identified to better align IT capabilities with key business imperatives and strategies. Business requires operational excellence, improvements in oil recovery, operational reliability and continuous improvement in safe operations.

This presentation provides an overview of the value associated to adopting SOA as a key element of the Chevron Upstream Foundation Program. The focus of the session will review the SOA evolution, founding principles, illustration of a value adding pattern and the challenges associated to a successful SOA implementation.
