Tim O'Neill Dr Tim O'Neill holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems and a PhD from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), Australia.

University of Technology, SydneyUniversity of Technology, SydneyCurrently he is a Research Fellow in the UTS Institute for Information and Communication Technologies (IICT) and for the last 2 years has been the CEO of Avolution Pty Ltd, a UTS spin-off company.

In the last 10 years Dr O’Neill has published over 20 internationally refereed University of Technology Sydneypapers and consulted on large systems engineering projects in all sectors in Australia and overseas.

He is currently undertaking multi-disciplinary, qualitative and quantitative research and consulting for large-scale, complex enterprises and systems on behalf of UTS and Avolution Pty Ltd.

Measuring the Business Value of Architecture at Insurance Australia Group (IAG)
This presentation will cover the interim results of a visionary project undertaken by Insurance Australia Group (IAG) to identify and implement a means for measuring the business value of architecture.

The overall measurement framework will be discussed including areas of; Principles, People, Process, Product and Outcomes, and Practice, Performance and Benefit metrics.

Furthermore, preliminary answers to the following 3 questions will be presented:

  1. To what level does IAG perform its architecture function?
  2. How well does IAG perform its architecture function?
  3. What effect does the architectural function have on both projects and the ongoing operation and support of solutions?

This project is ongoing and Dr O'Neill hopes to present further longitudinal results at subsequent Open Group meetings.
