In
the Technology and Enterprise Architecture environment, where
there is so much heat and little light, to be successful one
has to draw upon stochastic learnings from decades of technology
evolution.
Sohrab Kakalia, Vice President and Head of the Technology
Consulting Group at Infosys, brings cross platform, cross
industry global experience to help organizations meet their
tactical and strategic objectives across the world.
Always happy to be at the cutting edge of technology, Sohrab
has worked on mission critical defense and space programs
at the beginning of his career with Group Bull and PSI in
the late 80’s, he then lead teams building RISC processors
and eventually the RS 6000 - from interface chip design to
the AIX kernel. In 1993 he, first as team member then as
leader, managed the Strategic Software Unit at Group Bull
in France, during this phase multiple patents were obtained.
With a desire to work on high performance, high transactional
systems and closely with client teams, Sohrab moved to the
United States with Infosys in 2000 from where he leads his
global team.
Being a technocrat at heart, Sohrab finds it interesting
to observe the patterns that follow technology and innovation,
the impact on micro and macro economies, benefits and risks,
and making it work for you. Most of his findings were part
of his lectures in various universities or forums, including
Stanford, Indian Institute of Science & W3C.
He holds a Bachelor Degree in Science and a degree in Technology
in Electronics from the University of Bombay; he then did
his Masters in Computer Science from IIT, Bombay.
Sohrab is qualified gadget freak, who unhesitatingly tries
and reviews new technology, a beta tester for many products.
In his spare time he is either trekking or biking the hills
around the Bay Area or discovering the outdoors with his
wife and 2 daughters.

Presentation
The Role of the IT Architect
in a Global Environment
Leveraging globally capability and expertise is a cornerstone in building
lasting business and IT systems. Not only is the world flat with regards to
services, it is also flat in terms of consumer market reach lead by organizations
such as Amazon, Ebay, Froggle amongst others. There are few geographical,
economic and even political boundaries.
In Business and IT architecture provisioning, it impacts
the conventional process of thinking, brainstorming, communicating,
governing and managing in a global resource pool.
Infosys has 25 years of experience delivering business
solutions in a global delivery model. It is driving a more
industrialized approach to software development.
Sohrab Kakalia, Global Head of Technical Consulting, illustrates
how Infosys has created an architectural ecosystem where
business and technical consultants, application architects
and delivery teams collaborate in producing solutions reliably;
he shows how it integrates with the client’s own architectural
functions.
