Presentation
How Strategic is Strategy? – The Case for the Operating Model

Alignment of business strategy and IT is, without a doubt, the holy grail of enterprise architecture. But how strategic is strategy really? This presentation will show how the strategy changes as a function of the development process as well as organizational and cultural changes. The study is based on some of the actual strategies of Sasol Synfuels Information Management Department and will cover the time from 2005 to 2007. The strategy approach ranges from the rigid META Enterprise Architecture Strategy process, to the softer, vision-driven approach and ultimately to strategic conversation methodology. The presentation will show the organization context changing from embedded IT department to dedicated shared services organization. Three years, three methodologies, three strategies against changing organizational and cultural backdrop.
