A New Vision For The Insurance Industry

Freda du Toit is the executive director of SDT, a company in the JSE-listed Silverbridge group. SDT designs and delivers software solutions for insurance companies, based on insights into the overall processes against which these companies run.

This insight is very simple: insurance companies have by and large run on the same principles for more than three centuries. Automation over the last 50 years has not led to any improvement in efficiency or effectiveness; rather, there is a great deal of redundancy and duplication, and many bottlenecks. Significantly, no one person in an insurance company has a full, view of the entire process, which hinders attempts at holistic improvements.

This has precipitated a well publicised crisis in the insurance sector, centered on the high costs and low payouts attached to the current insurance model.

SDT has crafted a new vision and architecture for the insurance industry, which Freda will share and discuss. In addition, SDT has begun applying enterprise architecture principles to its market-leading software, and Freda will also discuss her company's progress in this regard.
