Robert Winter is director of the Institute of Information Management, University of St. Gallen (HSG), Switzerland, and director of HSG's Executive MBA program in Business Engineering. He received Master degrees in business administration and business education as well as a doctorate in social sciences from Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany. After eleven years as a researcher and deputy chair in information systems, he was appointed chair of information management at HSG in 1996.

He is currently responsible for competence centers in the fields of architecture management, integration management, information logistics, and healthcare management. The competence centers are entirely financed by medium and large Swiss and German companies, primarily from the services sector.
