CASE STUDY: Establishing an Information Management Capability Using Enterprise Architecture

Letsema Consulting is currently involved in establishing a supply chain information management & research capability for the Supply Chain Management Office (SCMO) within the National Treasury. The SCMO provides guidelines and support with regards to Supply Chain Management to all public sector entities, including government departments and public sector companies.

To serve their clients better, the SCMO needs to have efficient internal information sharing, as well as the ability to support their clients with relevant information that is required to negotiate the best contracts for government; and information that is aligned with the government supply chain strategies.

Louw Labuschagne, manager of the Letsema Consulting BI practice, will present this case study. He will cover the scope of the project; the value of using an Enterprise Architecture methodology to establish the capability; and the alignment of the information management capability with the IT department, external service providers and information clients.

This case study will highlight:

  • The scope of the project.
  • The value of managing information outside of a specific IT project.
  • The lessons learned in establishing an information management capability.
  • The value that a methodology like TOGAF brings to aligning stakeholders, identifying, collecting and managing information and managing user requirements for new information management systems.
