  Guy Bunker - Chief Scientist, Symantec  


Dr. Guy Bunker is a Distinguished Engineer at Symantec Corporation. He is responsible for technical strategy for the data management division and runs a number of research projects around intelligent archiving.Guy has worked for Symantec (formerly VERITAS) for nearly a decade in a number of different product divisions and roles.

He has been a member of a number of industry bodies driving standards in computer storage and management and is currently a member of the Global Grid Forum and the Grid Market Awareness Council. Guy is a regular presenter at many conferences, including JavaONE, TivoliWorld, Linux on Wall Street and the VERITAS user conference, VISION.

Guy has just had his second book published: Delivering Utility Computing: Business-driven IT Optimization.

Prior to VERITAS, Guy worked for a number of companies, including Oracle, where he was the architect for their Business Process Re-engineering tools. Guy holds a PhD in Artificial Neural Networks from King's College London and is a Chartered Engineer with the IEE.

The role of the security architect has evolved to become an intricate part of the corporate governance team along with other information technologists, business policy makers, corporate legal, corporate policy, risk management, auditors, and business management stakeholders. Good governance can be used to competitive advantage and a secure enterprise architecture is at the heart of it. In this session, Dr. Guy Bunker will discuss some of the challenges that security architects have today and examine some of the new skills they will need to be a success.
