Value and Usability in a Mobile World

Michael A. Krasner, Principal, Krasner Consulting

The increasing mobility of the end-user - business users, consumers, teens - across all markets and demographics, coupled with an exploding appetite for information, communication and entertainment everywhere and anywhere, has created new opportunities for providing high value services and content to the mobile user. In the past few years, however, we have seen that despite such opportunity, some services such as mobile Internet via WAP have not been as successful as projected. Why and what changes are needed? In this talk, we look at delivering services and content to mobile users through a multimodal services environment. We present market research on the value of various mobile applications to the end-user and business analysis on the value to the mobile service provider. Also, we look at how multimodal user interfaces improve usability of mobile services for increased user satisfaction, and the role of standards in developing and deploying those services.
