Hong Zhang serves as General Motors’ Director & Chief
Architect in the Emerging Technology group, reporting to
the Chief Systems and Technology Officer.
In this role, Hong is responsible for the GM’s global
common reference architectures (a basis for global architecture
standardization). He is also responsible for the evaluation
of emerging software technologies and the insertion of those
technologies into the mainstream of GM’s systems and
infrastructure.
Hong joined GM in March 2000 as Director of Architecture
in e-GM, the e-business unit of GM. He was appointed Director,
Enterprise Architecture in the Global Technology Management
organization in June 2001.
Before joining General Motors, Hong held a variety of positions
in the Information Technology department and the New Venture
department during his 12 years with Ameritech/SBC, and was
one of the team leaders who initiated Ameritech’s e-business.
Hong holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science and
a Master’s degree in Statistics from Wayne State University,
and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the East
China Normal University.
