  Christopher Cannon — YNH-CEPDR    

Christopher Cannon Christopher M. Cannon, MSN, MPH, MBA, FACHE, is Director, Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response (YNH-CEPDR).

YNHHSYNH-CEPDR provides state-wide, regional and national emergency preparedness leadership to acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, community health centers, home health agencies, urgent care centers, emergency medical services and community medical practices.

Christopher also directs the Connecticut Center for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) at Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS), the only hospital system in the United States with a CPHP designation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Additionally, he is the Director for the State of Connecticut YNHHS Center of Excellence for Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response, which coordinates the emergency preparedness efforts of the health system’s five hospitals and other acute care hospitals and health provider organizations throughout the state. Mr. Cannon was previously the Vice President for Ambulatory Services at Bridgeport Hospital and Director of Health for the City of Bridgeport (CT). He has 28 years of experience in hospital administration, healthcare management, ambulatory care and public health and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Hospital and Healthcare Emergency Preparedness - Challenges and Solutions
With designations from the State of Connecticut as a Center of Excellence for Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response and from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the Connecticut Center for Public Health Preparedness at Yale New Haven Health System, the Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response (YNH-CEPDR) provides emergency management leadership for healthcare delivery organizations in Connecticut, New England and the nation.

Fundamental to the YNH-CEPDR approach are the following strategies:

  • Organize activities around the cycle of preparedness (assessment, planning, activities and evaluation)
  • Utilize an extensive partnership network to maximize the number of audiences reached
  • Deliver consistent programs and services that comply with the National Response Plan, the Target Capabilities and the National Incident Management System
  • Engage civilian and military organizations, public and private resources and technological as well as human resources on the local and national levels
