Michael
Baltes is ITS Program Manager, Federal Transit Administration.
He joined the US Department of Transportation as the
ITS Program Manager at the Federal Transit Administration’s
Office of Research, Demonstration, and Innovation effective
March 6, 2006. He previously worked at Mitretek Systems
prior to joining USDOT.
He brings a wealth of transit and transportation experience
to his new role. Prior to joining Mitretek Systems, he worked
as Senior Research Faculty at the Center for Urban Transportation
Research (CUTR) in Tampa, Florida from 1991 to 2005. He has
over 15 years of progressive work experience in multi-modal
transportation research, planning, and project management
and development. He is considered an industry expert in Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS) and bus-based public transit
including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
He is widely published in both academic and non-academic
transportation-related journals and periodicals and other
publications. He has authored over 100 technical reports.
He is a member of two TRB committees and serves on APTA’s
BRT Task Force. He holds both of his undergraduate and graduate
degrees from the University of South Florida, Tampa.
