DCE in its historical context
DCE came as an answer from the user and vendor community for an Open Infrastructure, enabling highly scalable Distributed Computing Architecture
The Open Group (Open Software Foundation at that time) selected key technologies in an independent fashion, and integrated them together
Different from other solutions, DCE is delivered both as a reference code and specification documents
- To strictly define the infrastructure behavior
- In a vendor-neutral concept, to allow vendors to deliver their own version of DCE
