Introduction
Business Transactions are an important part of most business processes and therefore have a prominent part in the Open Group IT DialTone strategy. The high level objectives of this new program are to:
- provide a forum in which customers and vendors can work together to understand business requirements and technical developments.
- facilitate the production of products which meet the market need for TP services.
Scope of the Program
In the past the Open Group made a substantial contribution to TP product design through the Distributed Transaction Processing (DTP) model and associated specifications (TX, XA etc.). The new program will build on past experience but will be oriented clearly towards fulfilling the IT DialTone strategy. This will require a broader scope to take account of:
- the need for interoperability between vendor products,
- the development of applications that cover both intranet and Internet environments,
- the integration of TP with associated technologies such as Object Request Brokers (ORBs), message queuing, and, workflow management,
- provision of links to: security, location and directory services.
