Business Transactions Services are the foundation of on-line commercial data processing. Traditional on-line TP services have been defined by what are called the ACID properties (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability). These TP services, essentially, encapsulate a transaction such that it becomes an all-or-nothing atomic event, providing a reliable, predictable service on which businesses can depend, with guaranteed consistency across databases and other resources.
IT DialTone Business Transactions services will provide for the transactional semantics of enterprise systems to be extended across an infrastructure which is not under the control of any single organization.
Traditional Transaction Processing is typically characterized by a repetitive series of relatively short duration transactions among (more or less) homogeneous platforms owned by a single enterprise. Electronic commerce, especially associated with the consumer may entail longer running transactions, involving multiple human interactions, potentially involving multiple businesses.
