Presentation

Service Oriented Enterprise Architecture and Service Oriented Enterprise

Current SOA efforts tend to be more focus on application and system areas and lack business involvement in planning (e.g. business model, service model, cost model), management (e.g. service portfolio, lifecycle and governance), and enterprise facilitation (e.g. infrastructure). Also, current efforts tend to lack the identification of the boundary between where SOA applies and where it doesn’t. To make SOA successful at the enterprise level, we need to complete the service picture with full enterprise lifecycle, and clearly identify SOA applicable areas and their organic dependencies. This presentation identifies a sub-domain of enterprise architecture, as Service Oriented Enterprise Architecture (SOEA); and a sub-domain of enterprise as a Service Oriented Enterprise (SOE). The SOE is a natural result and a step forward from SOA. It applies service orientation not only to architecture but also to the full scope of enterprise business management and operations, to ensure an end to end service adoption with the expected effectiveness and benefits. The SOE will take guidance from SOEA (Service Oriented Enterprise Architecture), be enabled by SOA implementation in business processes, applications and systems, and be facilitated by Service Oriented Infrastructure (SOI).
