Application Portfolio Sustainability: a Holistic Approach
This session presents a holistic approach to managing the sustainability of an organization’s application portfolio. A holistic approach is based on a balanced view of service delivery, and includes business, architecture, and operational elements of the organization. A method is presented to mitigate application sustainability risks, align IT with business, improve organizational agility, and optimize costs and efficiency in service delivery. This method is based on a continuous improvement process for application and service portfolio management which draws on concepts from Enterprise Architecture, Application Portfolio Management (APM), and Project Portfolio Management (PPM).
The importance of APM and PPM is illustrated in a broader Enterprise Architecture context, and the value of documenting current-state and future-state architectures at the right level of detail to enable moving to a more efficient model of service delivery is discussed.
Finally, this session describes a method for creating a rolling multi-year roadmap to increase application sustainability, and presents best practices, challenges, and case studies in application sustainability.
