Presentation

The Seven Layers of Knowledge Architecture

Knowledge Architecture and the delivery of working Information to Knowledge workers is only now being clearly seen within the application architecture that has supported it in the past. The rise of Taxonomies, XML vocabularies, and Search Engines with and withour Semantic content have created a confusing world. Using a Layers approach (similar to previous approaches such as the OSI model), we'll discuss how these layers relate to one another, from the File Management Layer to the User Experience Layer, carefully showing the entertwined roles of Ontologies, taxonomies, Metadata, Classification and Mapping, and Search.  We'll also discuss key product vendors and current search technologies such as Wolfram Alpha and Bing!  Finally, we'll end with a discussion of governance and real world uses of these concepts.
