Boeing Service Registry Repository Deployment Experience and Approach toward Service Orientation
Competitive pressures, a contracting economy, and globalization are leading to inevitable changes within core business and the business of IT. Our current approach to build majority solutions as monolithic applications, which are redundant and localized within functional boundaries, is contributing to our inability to respond to rapidly evolving business needs. A holistic approach to service-orientation enables an environment of multi-vendor, agile, reconfigurable architecture that increases the adaptability of IT systems and enables IT to respond quickly to changes in the business.
As part of an enterprise-wide initiative we are developing strategies, approach, and deployment plan which will be shared in this paper. The first priority was to deploy the Service Registry Repository enabling SOA governance. This paper will cover the approach we are establishing to componentize the business into modular capabilities to enable service-oriented solutions. This paper will also address architectural blueprint of key supporting elements and the enterprise-wide service adoption and deployment roadmap, service quality assessment criteria, metrics, guidelines, and best practices.

 Ahmad R. Yaghoobi has been with The Boeing Company for over 24 years and has been an Associate Technical Fellow of The Boeing Company (since 1997). Ahmad has over 24 years of experience in software development, systems architecture, object- orientation, and enterprise architecture methods. Ahmad has a B.S. in Computer Science (CS) from Oregon State University and Master of Software Engineering (MSE) from Seattle University. Ahmad is certified in TOGAF, Enterprise Architecture Certification (CEA) from Carnegie Mellon, Fujitsu Certified Macroscope Coach and Consultant since 1994, and also was certified as SOA Architect and SOA Consultant by SOA Systems.

has 10 years of experience as a software engineer and software architect in a wide range of environments. She worked for a dot com Company prior to joining Boeing in 2001. Since joining Boeing, she worked with REDARS, SDT, and Phantom Works Functional Integration 2. She holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State, and a Master of Science in Software Engineering and Program Management from Carnegie Mellon. Kay was certified as a Sun certified Java programmer and a Microsoft certified professional during her programming time. She was also certified in TOGAF and SOA architect and SOA consultant. |

Coherent Business Process & Service Modelling & Analysis
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) promises making companies more flexible, enabling them to react quickly to changing market conditions. To leverage these advantages, SOA must be integrated with other existing management approaches like business process and enterprise architecture management. The presentation describes how business process and service analysis can coherently be executed by applying a single comprehensive modelling language.

Relations in The Open Group SOA Landscape
Within the SOA work group a number of standards are being developed. This presentation will show how these standards projects are related through the TOGAF/SOA practical guide. It will give insight how TOGAF can be used to create a SOA architecture and how this architecture subsequently is used as an input to SOA Governance, SOA Reference Architecture, Service Oriented Infrastructure, Legacy Evolution to SOA and SOA & Security.

 Mats Gejnevall is a Global Enterprise Architect with Capgemini Sweden. He is the vice-chair of the SOA Work Group and the co-chair of the SOA Governance project. Mats is also involved in many of the other SOA WG projects.

SOA Governance Patterns
Good governance is generally recognized as being crucial for SOA, and enterprises executing SOA programs have encountered the cultural issues that need to be addressed as part of an overall SOA Governance model.
While many technical SOA patterns have been documented, SOA Governance patterns have been largely ignored. This session will highlight a number of SOA Governance patterns to assist in addressing the cultural issues surrounding SOA adoption and execution.
