... and the Information Superhighway

The following statement of The Open Group's objectives and direction for its work on the Information Superhighway was agreed at the first meeting of the Superhighway Working Group.

• The Open Group can add value to the work of other organizations through its particular strengths, notably gathering of user requirements, testing, branding, and its expertise in various applications and aspects of Open Systems, such as transaction processing and internationalization.
• The Open Group intends to work with the user community to add value by defining user requirements for the Superhighway in more detail and by advising on where the solutions can be found.
• The Open Group will work with other organizations to evolve specifications in areas that are not already covered, to offer them testing and branding facilities, and to communicate identified user requirements.
