Higher layer key exchange techniques for Bluetooth security

The Bluetooth specification and security architecture defines security at the link level. Motivated by the need of enhancing the Bluetooth security, we will present new methods constructed for the recently developed framework using higher layer key exchange techniques for Bluetooth security. Our methods protect against both passive and active attacks. One of the methods is suitable for network scenarios requiring roaming support, while another method has general applicability, and enhances the security in pairing two devices without previous relationship.

Jan-Ove Larsson, Manager, RSA Labs Europe Jan-Ove Larsson manages the cryptographic research, standards development and prototyping work performed by RSA Labs Europe. He is current involved in projects, e.g., in the area of WLAN and Bluetooth.

Jan-Ove is a member of the Bluetooth SIG Security Experts Group, and the Swedish ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC27 WG. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Uppsala, Sweden.
