The United States Government spends about $40 Billion a year on Information Technology (IT). The Department of Defense (DOD), as the federal leader in IT, spends a significant proportion of that amount. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is charged with providing interoperable, secure information products and services to our warfighters and others as required by DOD anytime, anywhere, under any circumstances.
Of DISA's six core mission areas, the Chief Technical Officer, Ms Dawn Meyerriecks, has chosen to cover the Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment (DII COE) for The Open Group Conference, October 23-27 in Washington. The DII COE is the cornerstone of DOD's command and control and combat support computer software. It consists of a collection of segments or building blocks that comply with integration and runtime specifications and plug into a system and play without further modification. Systems built using the COE will consist of plugable, reusable, consistent, integrated component-ware.
Ms. Meyerriecks' presentation will cover: the vision for the future, DOD's COE today, standards being used, testing and certification, vendor benefits of certification, an ROI example, DOD's challenges and vendor opportunities, commercialization of the COE and the way ahead, DOD and Vendor benefits from the COE, and ultimately service as the differentiator with open products.
Come and hear what the US DOD is doing to develop and implement a common operating environment!
