Alfred Z. Spector, the General Manager of IBM Transaction Systems, has global responsibility for IBM's CICS/390 and TXSeries transaction processing products, the MQSeries messaging products, and the DFS enterprise file system products.  The Transaction Systems group delivers software products on many computer platforms, and has an active consulting and training business. Dr. Spector is also the Chairman of the Board of the Transarc Corporation, IBM's rapidly growing subsidiary that develops TXSeries and DFS and provides technical services to a large base of customers.

Previously, Dr. Spector was President, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Transarc. Prior to that, he was a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and Director of Carnegie Mellon's Information Technology Center. Dr.Spector received an A.B. degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University.
