Management Program Group

At the Miami meeting the Management Program will be continuing the series of Management Briefing Sessions started in San Diego. On Tuesday morning we will have 2 sessions. The first, on "The State of Distributed Management 1998", will be given by Richard Ptak, Vice President, Solutions for Enterprise Management at D.H. Brown Associates. This will be followed by a session on "Applications Management", given by John Sweitzer of Tivoli Systems, where he is the architect responsible for the design of Tivoli's AMS.

The Program Group meeting, on Wednesday and Thursday, will have several important sessions, including the following:

"Network Computer Management" - this session will include a joint meeting with the Network Client Program group. A key speaker will be Mark Pozefsky from IBM, the chair of the Network Computer Management Group.

"Java and Management" - this session will feature several speakers from vendor companies involved in applying Java Technology to the world of enterprise systems management. The speakers will be Mark Pozefsky, IBM, Dave Skinner, Sun Microsystems, and Sam Greenblatt, CA . They will be covering the use of Java in managing Network Computers, in implementing Policy Management, and the role of Java in enterprise management.

"Management Requirements for the Retail Industry" - thiswill be a joint session with the TOGAF Program Group and representatives of ARTS, at which we will discuss the ARTS requirements in the area of management, and how they can be translated into technical reuirements and ultimately into technical solutions.

"Software License Use Management" - at this meeting, the software licensing working group will be presenting the specification that they have been developing in response to the Business Requirement that they had previously developed.

We will also be continuing our IT DialTone related activities with particular emphasis on Phase 2 activities.
