"Enabling Business Transactions over Internet"
22nd - 23rd July 1998
The Eden Roc Hotel, Miami, Florida, USA

Business Transactions are much more than, and in many ways different, from traditional transaction processing. As a result the Transaction Processing Group has changed its name and is developing a new Program Plan to emphasise its strategic focus and be better positioned to deliver value to Members.

Our objective is to facilitate the creation of a heterogeneous, multi-vendor, standards-based IT infrastructure supporting business transactions.

At the Miami meeting we will discuss and finalize the work program for the IT DialTone Business Transactions services.

The agenda will cover the following:

Orientation for newcomers
Our experience shows that the most reliable and useful way to develop a technology strategy is to start by looking closely at the business process and to try and understand the logic and requirements. In order to do this in a structured manner we have adopted the approach defined in the Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). This introductory talk will "walk through" a simple scenario and explain the value of the methodology and how Members can apply it to the benefit of their own organisation.

IT DialTone and Business Transactions
In addition to the GSTP financial scenario, above, we believe that a relatively small number of similar business issues will be sufficient to define the scope of the Business Transaction Group. An analysis of these real problems will both of immediate value to Members and will assist the industry as a whole. However, we also need to take into account the relationship between business transactions and wider the IT architecture. A key strength of the IT DialTone is that explicitly addresses the problems of compatibility and interoperability and we need to maintain a close relationship with all other Program Groups to ensure our success.

Draft Program Plan
During the period after the last meeting we have made progress on developing a Plan for the Program Group. At this meeting we will present the current draft and take into account industry and Member requirements to bring it to a conclusion. Your contribution is vital!

See you in Miami!
